Indian Grain Storage Management and Research Institute (IGMRI)

Initially, Grain Storage Research and Training Centre was established at Hapur in 1958, which was later elevated to Indian Grain Storage Institute, with two field stations at Ludhiana and Hyderabad with financial assistance from the UNDP during 1968-73. It has been renamed "Indian Grain Storage Management and Research Institute” in 1996

The Indian Grain Storage Management and Research Institute (IGMRI), Hapur and its two field stations located at Hyderabad and Ludhiana are carrying out applied Research & Development activities on various aspects of post harvest management of food grains. Storage Technology developed elsewhere is also tested in Indian conditions at IGMRI. Besides, the quality of food grain is monitored by analyzing samples of food grains for physical parameters, pesticide residue and mycotoxin contamination. IGMRI has developed code of practices for Scientific Storage of food grains.IGMRI and its field stations are also organizing long term and short-term training programs on scientific storage and inspection of food grains for the officers/personnel's from various organizations viz. FCI, CWC, SWCs, Civil Supplies Corporations etc, and persons engaged in pest control operations. Besides IGMRI is conducting awareness programs for State Government Officers and farmers sponsored by Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA).

With a view to enthuse professional attitude/management in training and to develop IGMRI Hapur a centre of excellence for the purpose of training in the field of Post Harvest Management of food grains, an MOU has been signed between CWC and the Department of Food & Public Distribution in 2012. The training infrastructure and physico-chemical laboratories and IGMRI, Hapur have been upgraded. The pesticide residue and mycotoxin contamination in food grain testing Laboratories at IGMRI, Hapur are being renovated/upgraded
